Roman's 7

Roman's 7:21

Roman's 7:21: "So I find it to be a law that when I want to do right, evil lies close at hand." (ESV)

Paul is now on the topic of sin living in our flesh at this point in Romans. Earlier he stated that "For I know that nothing good dwells in me, that is, in my flesh." (v 19). There he says that because he is a man that was born into this world, he is already going to sin in his life. Sin is of the flesh, the bodily desires of a man. God is the Spirit in us, our spiritual desires not of this earth like our flesh, or, sin. When we want to do what is good and right in God's eyes, that's going to upset Satan, a lot, which is why he is right there at the very moment we want to do something right. He's wanting and trying to make us slip up and do what is displeasing to our Father.

So the lesson: doing what is good isn't always going to be easy, we will go through turmoil and constantly fight our flesh to do what is not of the flesh. There's a spiritual battle in each of us that goes on whenever we make decisions. It's our goal and our job to make sure that we don't let the temptations of Satan and our flesh get the best of us in those moments. Choosing to do good will not always be bad, but it will always be good and rewarding.

Roman's 6

Romans 6:6

Paul writes in Romans chapter 6 verse six that: "We know that our old self was crucified with him in order that the body of sin might be brought to nothing, so that we would no longer be enslaved to sin." (ESV)

At this point on Romans, Paul is on the concept of baptizing and being baptized. Paul first states in the beginning of this paragraph, to put it simply, that baptism simply does not mean that you are saved, but is a physical action of what is going on inside of someone spiritually. Then this verse ends up coming and catching my eye. When one makes the important decision of being baptized with Christ, we are dying. Not physically, but spiritually. Like this verse says, "We know that our old self was crucified..." Being baptized is the end of your enslavement to sin. It's the end. Zip. Gone. No more sin. Well, no more devotion to sin, because we all know that being baptized does not mean that you will never sin again.

So the point, when you are baptized, you're free! You're no longer a slave to sin! But now, you are a slave to righteousness. Isn't that a great feeling? It IS! So start living like it! When you're baptized, we need to put our past behind us and move on, because our sin died long ago. For me at least, this verse is telling me to drop my past. Forget it, it's gone and over with. I am now a slave of righteousness, and that's fine with me.

The Beginning

WHY

I decided to start up a blog mainly for my own use. When I read or take notes, I need to track them and write them down, otherwise they become lost in my field of thoughts. So, this blog will mainly be my one thoughts on different topics I read about and different notes I take. If you come by to see what I say, I hope you enjoy!
