Romans 6:6
Paul writes in Romans chapter 6 verse six that: "We know that our old self was crucified with him in order that the body of sin might be brought to nothing, so that we would no longer be enslaved to sin." (ESV)
At this point on Romans, Paul is on the concept of baptizing and being baptized. Paul first states in the beginning of this paragraph, to put it simply, that baptism simply does not mean that you are saved, but is a physical action of what is going on inside of someone spiritually. Then this verse ends up coming and catching my eye. When one makes the important decision of being baptized with Christ, we are dying. Not physically, but spiritually. Like this verse says, "We know that our old self was crucified..." Being baptized is the end of your enslavement to sin. It's the end. Zip. Gone. No more sin. Well, no more devotion to sin, because we all know that being baptized does not mean that you will never sin again.
So the point, when you are baptized, you're free! You're no longer a slave to sin! But now, you are a slave to righteousness. Isn't that a great feeling? It IS! So start living like it! When you're baptized, we need to put our past behind us and move on, because our sin died long ago. For me at least, this verse is telling me to drop my past. Forget it, it's gone and over with. I am now a slave of righteousness, and that's fine with me.
